i was totally still high from the anesthesia here, btw.

...apparently i was making all sorts of happy-ass calls to family on the way home, thinking i sounded totally normal.

now i'm less excited and counting down the minutes until gimpy can take her next happy pill.
1
so, this was today. not much going on, aside from excessive napping and probably too much whining.
2
we used the office chair to wheel my useless butt out to the kitchen. matt's been amazing with all the fetching and feeding and my whinging in between.
3
ok, so clearly not a HUGE fan of this one, but on the second reading i'm *much* more impressed.
4
stuck in bed most of today...again.

the ribbon is from a get well basket matt's family sent (they are amazing)- not 60 seconds had gone by before the visiting cat (pictured yesterday on flickr, looking particularly evil) had gnawed furiously through the ribbon and scurried under the bed. what followed was a pain in the ass search for 6" of ribbon.
5
day 6 of being an invalid. matt is kind enough to check the circulation in my toes, but is quickly distracted by a childhood game...and a lot of pretending my feet smell funny.
6
i've never enjoyed sitting in a parking lot so much. getting out of the house is one of my favorite joys right now.
7
matt went to the darkside (mac) so i get the dell! yay!
8
matt's parents came in to visit for the day. of course there was olympics to watch (or napping to be done) while matt updated everyone's blackberry. haha.
9
ok, so the couch has been the setting of one too many 365's lately, but my gimpy butt is tired after an excursion out for lunch.
10
*TMI alert* tramadol is good at stopping things. the pain? yes! i'm glad it's stopped!
my guttyworks, however? hmm.

the crappy subject (har har NO pun intended) come as a result of it getting dark fast and i forgot to plan my photo earlier. today was my first earnest day of work on back-to-school stuff, but it was the blog and website type, so no complaints here.
11
marian keyes is one of my favorite authors, and while she's often classified as writing "chick-lit" it's just damn good writing...that happens to be about women. smart, realistic, funny, modern irish women. there's no running about green hills and schticky oy-rish accents to be found, thankgod.
12
SO happy to be out of the house and having an ito en tea.

today was the first day i actually felt normal since my foot surgery. sure, i'm still hobbling around on crutches, but i'm almost pain-free!
13
this is embarrasing, but i've never seen or read Streetcar Named Desire until today. for shame. anyway, this was my exact reaction when brando swaggered on screen.

my friend that teaches Streetcar is continually frustrated by the boys like for Stanley. for some reason, they just don't get that he's not supposed to be celebrated. *shudder*
14
it's been two weeks now and i'm really over having these damn clickity-clackity crutches.

afternoon thunderstorms (and a needed break from beach volleyball) have made for some good tv watching weather. we're on episode 2 of generation kill, the hbo mini-series on the iraq war from the guys that produced the wire. it's good, if difficult to watch, and has a few familiar faces.
15
we live in what i think is the perfect mix of suburbia and rural(ia?). this was planted just a few months and it's huge now. i want a picture with someone for scale, but it's on a narrow two lane road...and i took this at the stoplight.

it's also fun to drive around with a new yorker prone to crowing "lookit the corns growin!"
16
locust point yacht club for friend's daughter's first birthday party.

this angle isn't the best- the throg's neck bridge is to the left and the nyc skyline to the right....but i managed to get none of the good stuff.
17
a full day of work on bloggy things (2 course blogs, one course website, and my portolio) for the new school year = cereal for dinner...and a lame picture. i later had a george foremaned turkey dog and some crackers. class AND nutrition!
18
it's been a couple of weeks, my stitches were taken out and i got the ok to go without crutches!
...though, and totally not kidding here, i look like benjamin button at a revival when i walk.

the downside is i'm going to be in the surgical shoe until the break is totally healed so i'll be teaching the first weeks of school whilst hobbling around in this contraption. though i hope to not be walking as above. it's far from authoritative.
19
it was too chilly yesterday, but today was warm enough for some laps. as the first exercise i've been able to do in 20 days, it felt fantastic!

i love that the brand of the suit is Uglies.
20
i always think of the kids i used to coach when i do this...they don't usually make such a charming face, though.
21
i got a classroom upgrade (omg windows!! yay!), but the downside is the unpacking, arranging, organizing, poster hanging, and bulletin board-making.
22
mika is fairly insistent about parking on papers.
i totally earned this foot attack by prodding her belly. hee.
23
enjoying what's probably the last of the summer shandy. i saw pumpkin beer out at the store yesterday...AND CHRISTMAS CRAP TODAY AT THE CRAFT STORE! WTF?
