Aid began to trickle into cyclone-ravaged Myanmar late Tuesday but the worst-hit Irrawaddy delta, where nearly 22,000 people perished, was largely cut off from the rest of the world four days after winds, floods and high tidal waves tore through the densely populated region.

With more than 40,000 still missing and as many as 1 million possibly left homeless, the international community was struggling to deliver aid in the military-ruled country, which normally seeks to shut out foreign officials and restricts their access inside the country

After snubbing a U.S. aid offer, Myanmar's isolationist regime indicated Friday that it wants foreign relief supplies but not foreign workers to help recover from a devastating cyclone.
The statement came a day after Myanmar's military government allowed in the first major international aid shipment amid fears the death toll from last weekend's cyclone could hit 100,000.

Even as Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton persisted with her campaign for the nomination, Mr. Obama made a celebratory return to the Capitol, where he received an enthusiastic reception on the House floor in an appearance staged to position him as the party’s inevitable nominee.

Behind the scenes, there were new discussions between Mr. Obama and the party leadership. Senior Democratic officials said he met with Speaker Nancy Pelosi when their paths crossed at Democratic Party headquarters. They had spoken by telephone earlier in the week. Ms. Pelosi and Mrs. Clinton have had no known recent talks.

‘No Hope’ for Children Buried in Earthquake: The children who were considered fortunate escaped with a broken bone or a severed limb. The others, hundreds of them, were carried out to be buried, and their remaining classmates lay crushed beneath the rubble of the schoolhouse.

“There’s no hope for them,” said Lu Zhiqing, 58, as she watched uniformed rescue workers trudge through mud and rain toward the mound of bricks and concrete that had once been a school. “There’s no way anyone’s still alive in there.”

Apple Reportedly Looking At Solar Power For Mobile Devices: Apple is reportedly looking into solar panels as a power source for handheld devices and portable computers.
A recently published patent application discovered by the Apple enthusiast site MacRumors.com describes a technique in which solar panels would be built behind a portable device's LCD screen. From that location, the panels could absorb ambient light that passes through. The technique would eliminate the need for Apple to redesign its iPods and laptops to make room for the new technology, MacRumors said. Among the problems with using solar panels on devices are durability and the need to take up valuable space on the compact devices.
