Tree roots on a rainy walk around the neighborhood. Even the trees here got funk!

First day of school! Visited the anthropology department. They have skulls lots and lots of skulls.

Stores and buildings still in need of repair on a rundown section of Freret Street. New orleans has been described as a checkerboard city in that neigborhoods consist of small patches of upper middle class landscaped streets with mansions right next to streets with dilapidated houses; A game largely played in black and white.

Sitting in traffic trying to get out of new orleans ahead of Hurricane Gustav. Escape Bar and Lounge probably had the right idea.
