January 2008 Archive
Festivities are in order for our famed user amperes, who today completed an entire year! Horray! If you're seeing this, you're on the new server. How's everything working?
The new server is faster, stronger, more powerful, and filled with awesome and win. PREPARE YOURSELF! 100 users on ShutterCal!!! 100 users on ShutterCal!!! 100 users on ShutterCal!!! 100 users on ShutterCal!!! 100 users on ShutterCal!!! WOOOOO!!! Here's a handy tip: to quickly scroll through pictures on a calendar, use your arrow keys! The escape key also closes the image window. So, how's everyone liking the new features? Any comments are welcome! How ya doin', ladies and germs. Working on burritos and a complete lack of sleep, I managed to bang out a ton of new features. Here's what we got: Friends: You can now add friends! Go to your favorite peoples' cal's, and under their photo click 'add friend' to add. Now you have a handy list of your friends listed on your 'cal, so you don't have to troll through the user directory, and you can quickly see who's updated. Editing Tools: Yes, everyone's been waiting for this one. You can now change the photo for a day, change the caption, and even remove it completely. Profile Pics: Profile pics now resize correctly and don't zoom in like your regular 'cal pics. Please reupload your profile pics to get everything looking nice. There were plenty of other interface tweaks as well, along with optimizations. There are many features on the pipeline as well: - Image rotation - UI tweaks - Forum - Theme days In the next week we'll be migrating to a new server so the site will work nice and fast. Because domains take a bit of time to change, if you see the site down, worry not! Everything will be fine! As always, let me know when stuff doesn't work so I can fix it for you. Thanks for uploading! Tell your friends! I like exclamation points! Well la-dee-da, look at ShutterCal and it's new editing feature. You guys asked for it and we finally got around to getting it up and running. The actual look of it may be tweaked in the days to come, but this is a good start I'd say. Woohoo! Next step is friends features... As of last night I pushed some updates to the site. We now have working profiles. Just click on your username in My Calendar and click on Edit Profile, you can upload a picture of yourself and tell us who you are and what your deal is. Also added is the ability to link to a single day's photo. If I wanted to show you my photo from January 14th, I would link to http://shuttercal.com/calendar/mach5/2008/1/14/. Many optimizations were also made, photos should pop up and load faster, anonymous users can no longer try to comment on photos, etc. Friend lists are in our next update, along with editing tools (delete, replace, and even rotate your pictures!), so stay tuned. As always, post in the comments here what your would like to see, or if you encounter any bugs. By now, I bet most of you have noticed a couple of aesthetic changes in and around the site... -our user directory is color coded so we can all see who is a good little ShutterCal user and who hasn't updated in forever -colored buttons for the various links around the site There are also a couple of things that are being worked on, so fret not. Soon we will have: -friend capabilities, message wall, user pics/profiles, editting tools (I'm sure we all have uploaded the wrong pic at some point in our endeavors), an "about" page so you know that we aren't picture pirates trying to steal your sweet shots, better comment notification All in all, I think the site is coming along well and I'd like to thank everyone out there for helping us out with feedback and such. You are all witness to the birth of one kickass website :P Question: Who would be interested in having a picture theme day once in a while? Hi, I'm Amperes. I am going to be one of the users doing the majority of the updates to this here blog and it would only make sense for you guys to be able to put a face with my name. We're all friends here, so come by and say hi. Now that we got formalities out of the way, thanks for checking out the site. Starting your ShutterCal is easy, and signing up takes less than a minute. Your Cal is created instantly and then you're ready to upload your daily image by clicking the date of your calendar you want to load. Easy as pie. How many days can you keep your Cal going? Check out my Cal, it has been going for 330+ days. Scroll back to 2007 for the start of the Cal. Other exemplary example Cals to check out are by whitelight and Victoria. If picture taking isn't your thing, you can also try something like drawingman, but hopefully with more success. So take a look around and give ShutterCal a try. Leave us a comment if there is a feature, tool, or idea you would like to see added to the site. -Amp |
